My Teaching Identity
Hi there! My name is Deanne Kuehn, a prospective K-12 educator in southern Manitoba. If you're a more visual learner, check out the video, where I discuss my teaching philosophy and views on education. This video was used for a virtual career fair (ahh to be graduating during a pandemic!). If you perfer a more linguistic style, read on.
I believe today's education is more than simply teaching the curriculum. In school, children are curious; they explore and develop their place in society, build relationships and refine communication skills. Problem-based learning offers deep learning experiences where students have voice and choice over their education.
My ultimate goal as a teacher is to foster a mindset of lifelong learning. Teachers are integral in facilitating a positive, inclusive community for students to step outside their comfort zone, work through failures and discover themselves.

PLANNING
Facilitate authentic learning experiences, connecting student interests with curricular outcomes.
Foster digital literacy and computational thinking skills within all content areas.
Offer students choice in their learning and a platform to share their voice.
Best Practices

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Promote an open dialogue, encouraging students to ask questions and participate in critical discussions.
Hold high expectations within a supportive, encouraging environment.
Establish clear rules and procedures to maintain a culture of respect.
Best Practices

ASSESSMENT
Use a variety of assessment strategies to measure and direct student knowledge.
Base assessment on curricular outcomes, not student behaviour.
Support the development of metacognition through self-reflection.
Best Practices
School as community
I believe in building strong relationships with students and families. Being attuned to each student, I can deliver learning in a way that is uniquely challenging and meets their individual needs. I genuinely care about my students and being a positive light in their life!
